After staying in Nice, we traveled by TGV along the Mediterranean coast past Antibes, Cannes, and St-Raphael. The upper level seats on the train provided a great view of the beaches and then the countryside as we headed North to Avignon. An easy drive brought us to Orange and then Uchaux. We rested in the garden terrace at the Chateau de Massillan on July 1-3. The grounds were relaxing as we strolled past a row of sycamore trees to the old garden. The restaurant was excellent and most of the vegetables came from their private garden.
On the first evening we drove down a narrow country lane to Les Farjons where we ate at Le Temps de Vivre. The course menu was excellent and one of my favorite in Provence. During a break between courses, Lisa and I walked past the old French churches in town as the sun set. A nice evening breeze carried the smell of nearby lavender as we walked back to LTV to resume dinner.
The next day we drove to Orange to visit the Theater Antique d' Orange, the opera house, and the Ancient Roman Theater. That afternoon we drove to Avignon to see the Palace of the Popes and Pont d' Avignon along le Rhone. On the final day Lisa and I traveled to Mornas before returning to the Chateau Massillon for lunch. The pictures at the end of the gallery show some of the great dinner plates from Chateau Massillon.
