We traveled to Spain in June 2019 for 2 weeks. Our journey began in Madrid where we walked through several historic neighborhoods including Gran Via, Sol, Palacio, Chueca, Retiro, La Latina, and Barrio de las Letras. Our hotel apartment was on the roof of Gran Via Capital. We had almost a 360 degree view of historic Madrid from our large 9th floor deck. The rooftop pool on the twelfth floor kept us cool and was a great location for refreshing afternoon sangria and cava. We looked down on Plaza del Callao and Calle Gran Villa. A short walk brought us to Puerto del Sol and the historic Plaza Mayor. On the first day we visited Museo del Prado and enjoyed tapas at Txapela. Later we devoured paella marisco at La Catedral. Lisa enjoyed her rooftop fashion shoot at sunset to complete a full day of touring.

We took two side quests from Madrid and visited Toledo and Segovia. The hillside view of Toledo shows the Alcazar and the fabulous Cathedral. We finished our day trip at the Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes before returning to Madrid. That evening we visited the Royal Palace of Madrid and ate dinner at Cafe de Oriente.

There are pictures of several fantastic meals in this gallery as we walked to several restaurants including Casa Botin, La Catedral, Cafe de Oriente, and Tapa Tapa. We finished one night at Chocolateria San Gines with delicious chocolate con churros.

On our final day trip we took the Renfe to Segovia. The town begins with a huge Roman aqueduct. We climbed the hill to visit the cathedral. Next time I will definitely climb the tower! The Alcazar de Segovia was incredible and essentially was a museum of armor with a great throne room. A climb up the tower steps provided a great view of the town and wonderful view of Catedral de Segovia.
